Free-Floating Curved Staircase

Our customer’s wish was to have a curved staircase that was free of any type of support columns from the deck down or, “free-floating.“
There were two major challenges to accommodate this request.
- CHALLENGE #1 – We needed an engineer to design such a structure and determine what size and type of material was needed to safely support a free-floating deck. We found that engineer in New York and the material required was calculated out to be 2” x 12” rectangular tubing.
- CHALLENGE #2 We needed to find a company with a CNC roller capable of handling our requirements. We finally located such a company in Missouri and once the stringers were rolled and delivered to our shop, fabrication commenced!
