Custom Business Sign Fabrication for Simons Feed & Seed – Elkhorn, WI

Simons Feed & Seed reached out by phone to ask about a new sign for their corner-lot business in Elkhorn. They wanted a double-sided custom business sign with room below for a double-sided LED board. On top of that, the structure needed to allow easy access for an electrician to install and maintain the digital components.
We walked them through our process, starting with a size proof to submit to the city for zoning approval. While the sign permit was under review, we began working on the design using our CNC-compatible software. Once the city gave the go-ahead and the customer approved the final design, we moved into metal fabrication.
The Challenge
The business is located on a corner lot with high visibility, which made this project even more valuable for the client. A strong, well-placed sign would help attract attention from both directions and serve as a key advertising piece for foot and vehicle traffic.
We also needed to make sure the structure had proper spacing and access for future electrical work, as both the main sign and the LED board needed to be functional and serviceable from both sides.
Custom Business Sign Fabrication Process
This custom business sign fabrication was completed in our shop using several key tools and resources:
- CNC plasma table for precision-cut sign shapes
- Design software for layout and client proofing
- Hydraulic press brake and bandsaw for shaping and cutting steel
- MIG welder for structural welding
- Hand tools for final fitting and detailing
Once the city gave formal approval, we completed the entire signage fabrication process in just two days. The frame was built to support the main sign and LED board while keeping the weight balanced and access open for the electrician.
