Custom Flatbed Fabrication for Pier Truck – Lake Geneva, WI

Lake Geneva Pier Company contacted us to ask if we could handle a custom flatbed fabrication project for their new work truck. They needed something built to match their day-to-day demands and wanted it to include several specific features. During the initial phone call, we offered to meet and go over design ideas. We also explained that once the quote was approved, we could schedule a time for them to drop off the truck so we could begin fabrication.

When we met to review the details, they had a clear list of features the flatbed needed. These included a custom gooseneck hitch that would sit flush with the bed, toolboxes on both sides, a heavy-duty headache rack, and a bumper-style pull hitch. They were looking for a long-lasting solution designed around how they actually use the truck in the field.

Fabrication Process

All work was completed in our shop using a combination of CNC plasma cutting, MIG welding, a hydraulic press brake, a bandsaw, and other metal fabrication tools. The process began by determining the mounting points for the bed on the truck’s frame. After laying out the outer frame and crossmembers, we welded the structure and fabricated the mounting brackets.

Next, we built and installed the headache rack, added the bed floor, and fabricated the gooseneck hitch directly on the truck’s frame. Once aligned and secured, we added the toolbox mounts, brackets, filler neck, and final components. After disassembly, we epoxy-primed and painted the entire flatbed black. The bumper hitch was fabricated and painted separately. As a finishing detail, we CNC-cut their company logo in stainless steel and mounted it on the front of the headache rack.

Why Custom Flatbed Fabrication Matters

For companies like Lake Geneva Pier, having a standard flatbed doesn’t meet the real-world demands of their daily operations. The truck needed to haul heavy gear, carry tools safely, and provide easy access for hitching. Off-the-shelf solutions wouldn’t have delivered the same functionality. Custom flatbed fabrication provided them with a setup that perfectly fit their exact workflow and truck specifications.

Final Outcome

From design approval to completed fabrication, the entire project took just a few days. The client dropped off the truck within two weeks of the original call. Once the flatbed was installed and painted, they were ready to put it to work immediately.
